Hello Legion Family!

Warm weather is finally upon us!

We have had many successful events this past year! I hope you all enjoyed them if you were lucky enough to participate. Our volunteers and members have worked hard to come up with new events, entertainment, and dinners. With that being said, I want to give a shout out to the people who are regular helpers at our Post, and a few of them are leaders in motivation for the rest!

I have far too many dedicated volunteers in our Auxiliary to name them all. However, we have such an excellent reliable team of ladies, that we have been able to rise and conquer even within our own district because of them. In the three years that I have been President, our Auxiliary only keeps growing with more wonderful members! You ladies know who you are, but thank you for supporting me and our reputable Post 215! We have made a difference with the 4th District and within our own Post. With nominations coming up, I do not know if I will still be in this position. So this is my chance to make sure and thank each and every one of you for all you do for making our LaGrange American Legion the best that it can be. As a bartender, I can tell you that we have a lot of positive feedback from guests that visit our Post. We recently hosted the monthly 4th District meeting in April, and other surrounding Legion Posts that came were very impressed with our hospitality, meals, and our wonderful facility. This is the same feedback I hear from others that are passing through or belong to another local Legion. Please continue to help up keep this reputation by embracing new faces when we see them and by showing them the fun family-oriented group of people we have that makes the place OUR HOUSE!

If you can find time to attend our meetings next month, please do so as this will be the meeting where we vote in the new officers for the year. It will be May 27 at 6 p.m. If you are interested in being a volunteer and would like to start attending meetings, or help in making decisions with events, please get a hold of me to add you to our online chat group. We always welcome new helpers! We can always use kitchen volunteers every single week!

I just want to recognize a few ladies who brought us new events this year: Brenda (Louise) Williams, Kitchen Manager, Thanksgiving dinner and Veteran lunches; Dawn Miller, Comedy Night; and Julie Byler and Erin Zinkie, “Hens Dropping Havoc” contest.

Again, we have so many special people who volunteer time, money, research, and labor. Some people do all of these things. Even if you are a regular member of the Post, you cannot possibly know all the details of the things that happen behind the scenes by volunteers to make things run smoothly. Whether that be on a day-to-day basis, or for an event, there is a lot of work that people put in that not only goes unappreciated, but completely unknown. So, my suggestion to that is, be careful when sharing your opinions out loud. You truly never know who you are sitting next to, or venting to, who may have had a hand in helping with these things. If you have any suggestions, we welcome you to our meetings where they can be brought up in a positive atmosphere. Be mindful of your surroundings and appreciate those that give their time and efforts to make our Legion function!

May is Poppy Month! The red poppy is a nationally recognized symbol worn by Americans since WWI to honor those who served and died for our country in all wars. So, please watch for our ladies to be selling poppies at Miller’s Super Value, May 23 and 24. Please buy a poppy to honor all who gave their lives for our freedom. As always, please go to our website for information, events and updates! https://lagrangepost215.org

Remember to thank a veteran. Happy Spring!

—Lisa Olinger, Auxiliary President
