Fellow veterans,

I would like to extend a huge thank you to Steve Bowen and Derik Ross for roasting the hog. Also Jim Fisel for a bang-up job on the corn and the baked beans were great for our Appreciation Dinner for the volunteers August 16. The pork was excellent along with the sides that were provided by other post volunteers. There was a good turnout of members and their families. I look forward to doing similar things in the future.

The cancer fundraiser is next month. Proceeds will benefit Katy McGrath. Katy was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia; she still has a long road ahead with treatment and recovery. Your participation in this event will be greatly appreciated. Any donations you can provide will help make this a huge success.

There are other things coming up in the months of September and October. Please check the calendar for events and dates.

This building was dedicated on November 8, 1997, almost 30 years ago. I was going through some of the documents from that day and found this excerpt from a letter written by then National Commander Anthony G. Jordan:

“This Post Home is simply the foundation on which so much more must be built. Certainly, there will be good times here: Smiles will greet those who enter; it will be a place to meet old friends and make new ones; there will be luncheons and parties, music and laughter. People will have fun here…and that’s important.”

Those words were true 30 years ago and it’s our goal to keep them true today, and in the future. With the cooperation of the Sons of the American Legion, the American Legion Riders, and the Auxiliary, we can keep it going for our sons and daughters.

We will be getting “E” tickets in October or November, depending on when the state finalizes the administrative rules. The rules will be posted at each of the machines. I believe we will try to get five ma-chines along with a Point of Sales system for re-deeming your winnings. I look for this to greatly help the Post financially, which will allow us to do more for the Post, Veterans, and the Community. We haven’t finalized a location for the machines and are open to suggestions.

Labor Day is right around the corner which usually means the end of summer. Please be safe and enjoy the holiday weekend.
